The Skills-Based Assessment of Core Communication Skills: K-2 is a non-standardized measure of proficiency of communication skills required for students to successfully master grade-level content in the regular education curriculum.
Based on the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects for grades K, 1, and 2 (National Governors Association, 2010), the SACCS: K-2 is designed for use by speech-language pathologists to identify student strengths and needs and document progress on targeted skill areas.
The assessment tasks included in the SACCS: K-2 are:
- Phonological Awareness
- Speaking and Listening
- Language
Student skills are surveyed at each grade level (K, 1 and 2) through a variety of tasks including classroom observation, spontaneous language assessment, individually administered listening tasks, and individually administered speaking tasks.
