Julie Ornes, Author

Julie Ornes, MHS, CCC-SLP, holds a master's degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Her current focus of practice is preschool children with specific language impairment. Julie has an explicit interest in the relationship between early language development and emergent literacy. The Emerging Language and Literacy Curriculum (ELLC) was created out of a shared interest with her colleagues in seeing young children with language impairment succeed in acquiring the ability to read. Julie has conducted presentations, both in Missouri and nationally, about ELLC and about phonological awareness and its relationship to reading success. She has been a practicing clinician for more than 20 years, and has provided services to both home- and center-based settings to children with a variety of speech and language disorders and diagnoses. Julie currently owns a pediatric private practice in Kansas City, MO. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Advisory Council for the Early Reading First Emerging Language and Literacy Project.
